Spiritual Counseling
What is spiritual counseling?
It is an experience, online or in-person, for connecting with yourself, others, and Something Bigger. It often looks something like this: we say hi, I say “what’s going on,” and you tell me things that are going on. I pull a book off the shelf and we study relevant text that calls to a part of you that you know you need to hear (even if you don’t always want to).
Of course, spiritual counseling is a unique experience for each person and might look different for you than for someone else with different life experiences. With some folks, I study more text, with other folks less. With some folks, I ask you to do exercises between sessions, and with some folks, I don’t. It is my job to figure out what helps you connect.
Over time, you can learn to connect with the voice of your soul - a voice that calls you to live better.
How is spiritual counseling different from therapy?
In my experience, therapy focuses on why things happened or are happening, while spiritual counseling focuses on what now. Given the present moment, and how you got here, how will you live?
